Forward Together: Embracing Resilience and Unity Amidst Adversity
As we stand at the crossroads of unprecedented economic potential for Black Americans and persistent socio-political challenges, we must continually remind ourselves of the strength and resilience that define our community. The journey of Black entrepreneurs is a testament to the unwavering determination and the power of collective action—a journey that we celebrate, amplify, and equip for sustainability here at Our Village United.
Despite the obstacles, we continue to rise, innovate, and create spaces that empower and uplift. But this isn’t news to you because you know and live this reality as an integral part of our community. For that, I’m grateful and confident that we can confront and conquer this crossroads together.
There’s a concerning trend of groups waging extensive legal battles against corporate diversity programs. These attacks are not just legal maneuvers but a direct challenge to the progress made in creating opportunities for marginalized, underfunded, and underrepresented communities. In some cases, the irony is stark and disheartening: a law initially designed to protect formerly enslaved people from economic exclusion is now being leveraged to challenge initiatives intended to support minority-owned businesses. But instead of viewing these trends as hindrances, we should use this time to emphasize resilience and unity in the face of adversity. We should use this time to assess our level of intention and commitment to economic prosperity.
As we’ve seen and are experiencing now, the journey to economic equality is fraught with obstacles, but it is one we must continue to navigate with determination and collective effort. Let me assure you that our work at Our Village United—championing the cause of under-represented founders and creating platforms for their success—remains within the bounds of the law. Our commitment to fostering economic empowerment and community development is unwavering, and we continue to provide a supportive ecosystem for founders to thrive.
Family, in this moment of urgency, our mantra, “Support is a Verb,” reminds us of the importance of intentionality – from our actions to how we spend time on business planning to business collaboration and how we intentionally empower each other. When activated, our support ignites economic efficacy, creates generational wealth, and scales Black businesses. Our call to action is clear: Our support in this season must happen through intentional engagement for a sustainable impact. We must remain vigilant about policies and socio-political factors impacting the entrepreneurial environment by staying informed, engaged, and proactive in defending and advancing the interests of Black-owned businesses. At Our Village United, we’re creating ways to do just that. You can join this critical work by
The promise of the future and the socio-political challenges we face inspire me to work even harder and stay determined. Your intentional engagement will contribute to our broader vision of building collective wealth and reclaiming the hope, joy, and excitement that detractors are working so hard to undermine.
Let’s keep pushing forward, embrace resilience, and unite our efforts for a brighter, more equitable future.
If we go after it as a Village — we can do it!
